ВАЛЬТЕР Олександр Петрович

(28.12.1817-23.09.1889)

Доктор медичних наук з (1845), професор. Закінчив медичний факультет Дерптського університету (1841). Учень М.І. Пирогова. Однин із засновників і керівник кафедри анатомії Київського університету (1844-1868). Окрім основного курсу анатомії викладав фізіологію (1862-1865), фармакологію (1859-1861), хірургію та історію медицини. За його ініціативи було збудовано  анатомічний театр (1853). За власні кошти видавав журнал “Современная медицина” (1860-1881). Його роботи присвячені анатомо-фізіологічним аспектам, а також питанням теплоутворення і теплорегуляції в організмі тварин. Відкрив судинозвужуючу дію симпатичних нервів.

WALTER  Oleksandr Petrovych

Doctor of Medical Sciences from 1845, Professor. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of Tartu University (1841). He was a disciple of M.I. Pyrogov; one of the founders of the Department of Anatomy of Kyiv University and its head during the period of 1844-1868. Besides the main course of anatomy, he taught physiology (1862-1865), pharmacology (1859-1861), surgery and the history of medicine. He initiated the construction of the theatre of anatomy (1853). He published the Modern Medicine journal at his own expenses (1860-1881). His works were devoted to anatomical and physiological aspects, and also to the questions of heat production and regulation in the organism of animals. Oleksandr Walter has discovered the vasoconstrictive action of sympathetic nerves.
