X-rays of the head are shown to assess the condition of the skull bones, not to examine the brain, as many people think (for this, the doctor will refer you for an MRI or CT scan). Radiography of the skull allows you to assess the condition of 3 groups of components of its bones: the bones of the skull, lower jaw and facial bones. The bones of the skull and face are fixedly connected to each other, forming a dentate line at the point of contact, called the cranial suture. The skull is such a complex anatomical structure that its comprehensive study requires the performance of several X-rays in different projections. In order to assess the general picture, the doctor prescribes an examination, and to examine specific areas of the skull (lower jaw; bones forming the nose; eye sockets of the skull; Turkish saddle “; temporomandibular joint; mastoid processes of the temporal bone, etc.) – sighting.
